Imagine every time you get up and sit down you cause abrasion, you “rub” the fabric you are sitting on.  This guide is beneficial to the consumer.  You could safely assume that a fabric with 10,000 rubs, may not be as durable as one with 50,000.

That doesn’t exclude a fabric with lower rub numbers.  You may be covering a piece of furniture that does get much use, and you love the fabric. That’s fine.  But if you are looking to cover a piece that gets a lot of use, a low rub number could fail the job.
